We are so excited to add some of our fabulous Scoop shop items to our website – our NEW virtual scoop shop! Red lentils are a popular staple amongst our customers.

We package the red split lentils for delivery in home compostable bags made from plant cellulose; helping to keep them free of plastic waste!

Simply fill up your recycled containers – recycled glass jars or butter tubs to name a few – to cut out the unnecessary new plastic packaging. The bright orange colour of these lentils makes them a very ascetically-pleasing addition to any kitchen pantry when displayed in a clear container!

About Red Split Lentils 

Red Lentils are known for their delicately sweet flavour. They cook relatively quickly and tend to turn mushy and for that reason are most commonly used for making Lentil Soups, Curries and Dals. Red Lentils – as opposed to brown and green lentils – have the shortest cooking time; around 15-20 minutes. They need no pre-soaking unlike many legumes and as they are split.

Just 1/2 cup of cooked split red lentils has 273 mg of potassium! Potassium can counteract the damaging effect of sodium and has been shown to lower blood pressure.

Furthermore, Lentils are a plentiful source of fiber and folic acid. These nutrients all support heart health. Not only does fiber have links to a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, but it might slow the progression of the disease in high risk individuals.

They also provide protein, and are an excellent replacement for meat in meals.
